Sarah Ann Gilliland

Sarah Ann Gilliland, age 89 of Wellston, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Jenkins Care Community in Wellston. She was born in Jackson County on March 21, 1929 to the late Oscar “Sheldon” and Harriett (McCormick) Exline. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Charles W. Gilliland; a son, J.R. Gilliland, a great granddaughter, Lucy Tiller; and brothers: Ernest Exline, Charlie (Marilyn) Exline, “Rip” Exline and an infant, Oscar Exline.

She is survived by her sons: Mike (Gay) Gilliland and Paul Douglas Gilliland; daughters: Linda Snider and Brenda (Michael) Burgett; 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Larry (Marilyn) Exline; daughter-in-law, Vicki Gilliland; a sister-in-law, Ernestine Exline; along with many nieces and nephews.

Sarah was a member of the C.C.C.U. Trinity Chapel in Jackson. She fought a good fight and kept her faith to the end. She loved gospel music, vegetable and flower gardening, birds – especially cardinals – and being a homemaker.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Jenkins Care Community for taking such good care of her. They were her angels here on earth.

The family will receive friends at the Mayhew-Brown funeral home on Wednesday, April 25 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Knox Bullock officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home in Jackson.
