Rose Marie Thomas

Rose Marie Thomas, age 73, of Oak Hill, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2018. She was born in Oak Hill on Nov. 17, 1944 in Oak Hill to the late Evan Howard Hughes and Murble Hughes Shelton.

Rose was a licensed beautician before attending the University of Rio Grande where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She was an elementary school teacher in Oak Hill.

Rose’s passion was her family and she was a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughters, Angela (Donald) Criner and Kyra (Brian) Gaines, of Oak Hill; grandchildren, Kyle (Kristin) Criner, of Carroboro, NC, Kory Criner, Ryan Gaines and Kelsey Gaines, all of Oak Hill; and great-granddaughter, Kendall Rose Gaines, of Oak Hill. She is also survived by her sisters, Peggy (David) Rucker, of Greenville, TX; Aldean (Jerry) Foster, Oak Hill; Ruth (Don) McGoon, of Jackson and brother, Morgan (Kriston) Hughes, of Oak Hill as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Rose was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Hughes and her sister, Catherine Lewis.

A private service and burial will be observed for the family.
