Larry Smith Sr. (“Smitty”), age 79, of Oak Hill, passed away Monday, Feb. 12, 2018 at his home. He was born May 5, 1938 in Murray City, Ohio to the late Lawrence E. and Mary J. (Coakley) Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda (Dameron) Smith, of Oak Hill; children, Robin (Doug) Balthaser, Larry “Chic” (Michelle) Smith, Jr., Matt Smith, Denise (Buzz) Karr and Jason Smith; 26 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and step children, Tamie (Scott) Christensen, Rhonda (Brett) Shipman and Tina (Michael) Fisher. Also surviving are many extended relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Smith in 2009 and his daughter, Beth Smith in 2003.
Larry graduated from Murray City High School with the Class of 1956. He then went to work for South Central Power. He founded the IBEW Local 2359 on Dec. 1, 1970. He was also a past trustee for Salt Creek Township.
Friends may call Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill. Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 16, 2018 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Stan Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Centerpoint Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com
