Francis Eugene “Gene” Thorne, age 81, a lifelong resident of Wellston, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 6, 2017 from the Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis, Ohio. He was born Oct. 10, 1936 in Wellston, Ohio to the late Andrew Francis Thorne and Helen L. Dempsey Thorne.
Gene was a laborer who enjoyed music and playing the guitar. He loved animals, especially his cats.
He is survived by his two daughters, Barbara Kerr (Jammie) of Patriot and Candi Atchison (David) of Lucasville; two granddaughters, Jammie Clark (Anthony) and Christina; two grandsons, Andrew Kerr, Sr. and Jerald Thorne-Snelling; four great-granddaughters, Rowan, Kaitlyn, Athena and Kaylee; and four great-grandsons, Izaiah “Zai”, Blayze, Nathaniel and Andrew, Jr.
Besides his parents, Gene was preceded in death by sister, Ruth Martin; former wife, Connie Thorne; and niece, Angela Detty.
Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston with funeral service starting at 6 p.m. Pastor Steve Mathews will officiate. Cremation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions be given to the McWilliams Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.
