John A. Carey, Sr.

John A. Carey, Sr., age 81, of Jackson, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Edgewood Manor of Wellston. He was born July 11, 1936 in Wellston, Ohio to the late Joseph G. Carey and Virginia R. Schultz Carey.

John was a 1954 graduate of Wellston High School. He was the owner and operator of Carey’s Hauling for 50 years and a former employee of Frick-Gallagher Manufacturing in Wellston where he was employed for 39 years.

John was a hardworking man who knew everyone and never met a stranger. In his spare time, John enjoyed traveling, walking around Lake Alma and attending auctions and flea markets.

John is survived by his wife, Janice A. Welch Carey; children, John A. Carey, Jr. (Lynley) of Wellston, Jeffrey R. Carey of Wellston, Jerry D. Carey of Wellston and Suzanne Zielinski (Brian) of Glenside, Pa.; step-children, Anthony V. Stewart (Marilyn) of Mazatenango, Guatemala, Betsy A. Haislop (Robert) of Jackson and Joshua R. Stewart (Gina) of Jackson; grandchildren, Justin and Jordan Carey, Andrea Carey, and Cait and Declan Zielinski; great-grandson, Caleb Brock Ervin; sister, Janet Jones (Richard) of Wilmington, NC, as well as nine step-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and special friends, Larry Patrick and Mark Waugh.

Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by granddaughter, Jessica N. Carey; brothers, Jamie Carey and Joe Carey; sister, Judy Cesner; and his aunt, Betty Hamilton.

Calling hours will be Saturday, July 22, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. A Celebration of Life service will follow the calling hours at 1 p.m. with Rev. Bob Davis officiating. Private burial for the family will be in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
