Carl R. Wooten, Jr., age 70, of Jackson, Ohio, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, June 13, 2017. Carl was born in Jackson, Ohio to Carl Wooten and Elsie (Weese) Wooten on Dec. 17, 1946. Carl was a 1964 graduate of Jackson High School, a graduate of the University of Rio Grande, and a teacher at Eastern Local Schools for 36 years. Some of his fondest memories were from his 40-year coaching career. Carl coached junior high basketball, volleyball, and track at Eastern and Jackson Middle School.

Carl was a figure on the sidelines of many Jackson sporting events. He spent over 50 years manning the chain crew at football games, keeping score books, and running scoreboards. His true passion in recent years was spending time with his four beloved grandchildren.

Carl is survived by his wife, Linda (Largent) Wooten; sons: Chad (Stephanie) Wooten and Doug (Sarah) Wooten; daughter, Ashley (Jeremy) Sturgill; and four grandchildren: Jace, Abby, Bryner, and Calianne.

Carl is preceded in death by his father, Carl Wooten, Sr.; mother, Elsie Wooten; and infant daughter, Cynthia Wooten.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home, 28 Harding Avenue, Jackson, Ohio 45640 with Minister Greg Potter officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, June 16, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Carl’s memory to be used for scholarship or support of Jackson Athletics.
