Marlene R. Brenner, age 84, of Wellston, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at her home. She was born Dec. 7, 1932 in Wellston, Ohio to the late Austin Gill, Sr. and Loma B. Harber Gill.

Marlene was a 1950 graduate of Wellston High School. She was the former owner and operator, along with her husband, John, of Brenner’s Grocery and Carry-Out in Wellston. Marlene was an avid bingo player who also enjoyed watching her TV shows and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, John Brenner (Glenna), Tom Brenner (Tina), Mary Williams (Steve) and Chris Brenner (Missy), all of Wellston; nine grandchildren, Denise Brenner, Anthony Brenner, Cynthia West, Jennifer Brenner, Erin Dupree, Jason Brenner, Amy Williams, Mike Williams and Amanda Williams; 19 great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Haley, Lacey, Katie, Xavier, John Anthony, Luke, Caleb, Grant, Ali, Adelynn, Asher, Christopher, Kirstan, Zachary, Chloe, Maddie, Carter and Cooper; brother, Bob Gill of South Carolina; sisters, Audrey Norris of Wellston, Phyllis Hollingshead of Arizona, Linda Emmert of Wellston, Connie Robinson of Columbus and Sandy Angles of Washington C.H.; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Besides her parents, Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Brenner, on Feb. 17, 2009; siblings, Jean Sprague, Austin Gill, Jr., Dale Gill, Jerry Gill, Don Gill, and infant Charles Frederick Gill; as well as four great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions in Marlene’s name be given to The Ohio State School for the Blind, 5220 North High St., Columbus, Ohio 43214.
