Roger Wayne Mercer

Roger Wayne Mercer, age 79, of Jackson, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 at Adena Regional Medical in Chillicothe. He was born on Nov. 4, 1937, son of the late Thurman Mercer and Mildred McCoy Mercer.

Roger was a veteran who proudly served eight years in the United States Army during the Cold War era. He was stationed in both Okinawa and Germany. It was during his tour of duty in Okinawa he married Michie, the mother of his five children: John, Jim, Mary, Frankie and Janet.

He retired from the Jackson Plastics Plant as a supervisor, having worked there 37 years. He remembered his co-workers and remained friends with many. He was a life-time member of AMVETS and the VFW where he enjoyed conversation and spending time with his friends.

Roger found love once again and is survived by his loving wife Ruth Nichols Bolen Mercer; one brother, Gary (Connie) Mercer; two sons: John (Shaleen) and Jim (Patty); and two daughters: Mary Mercer Cruse and Janet Mercer-Quillen. Also surviving are step-children: Janet Bayes and Clyde Bolen, along with eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Roger was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Mercer; wife, Michie Mercer and an infant son, Frank Gene.

In keeping with Roger’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. Cremation and placement of his ashes will be at the convenience of the family.
