Garnetta M. “Gigi” Holzapfel

Garnetta M. “Gigi” Holzapfel, age 93, of Wellston, passed away Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016 at Jenkins Care Community in Wellston. She was born May 30, 1923 in Davisville, Ohio, Coal Township, to the late Everett Evan Richards and Augusta Rebecca Leach Richards.

Garnetta was a 1941 graduate of Coalton High School. Along with being a loving housewife and homemaker, she was a former employee of the Jackson County Municipal Court for several years. Garnetta was a longtime, faithful member of the Hope United Methodist Church in Wellston and the Chase Chapter #162 Order of the Eastern Star of Wellston. Some of Garnetta’s favorite pastime included reading, shopping, vacationing, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and boating on the Ohio River for over 30 years.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Leonard A. Holzapfel; daughter, Nancy Holzapfel Riley of Springfield; sons and daughters-in-law, Len and Bonnie Holzapfel of Wellston and Rex and Vicki Holzapfel of Wellston; grandchildren, Brian Riley (Jayne), Meghan Dement (Shawn), Michelle Anders (Brad), Jason Holzapfel (Jackie), Stephanie Weber (Shannon), Kevin Holzapfel (Tomi) and Kerri White (Tim); sister, Wilma Sims of Hamilton, along with 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Garnetta was preceded in death by her sister, Edna Pauline Vorys and her brother, Roger Richards.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Leland Brehm officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
