Wilbur E. Ward, Jr.

Wilbur E. Ward, Jr., age 92, of Wellston, passed away Friday morning, November 18, 2016 at his home. He was born June 11, 1924 in Cheshire, Ohio to the late Wilbur E. Ward, Sr. and Ada Ward.

Wilbur was a Sergeant in the United States Army, who served during WW II as a Pharmacy Technician. He was a graduate of The Ohio State University School of Pharmacy and was the owner and operator of the former Ward’s Drug Store in Wellston. Wilbur was a former member of the Wellston Rotary Club, American Legion Post 371 of Wellston, Blue Lodge Masonic Group and the Shriner’s Club.

He was a fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds, and in years past, he enjoyed golfing at the Fairgreens Country Club. Wilbur’s favorite past time was feeding the birds, deer, raccoons and all five of his cats.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan Gesling Ward; sister-in-law, Sue Dyer of Winter Park, Fla.; and caregivers, Georgia Royster and Mandy Leach, both of Wellston.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Rob Ervin officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
