Vernita “Nedie” F. (Slater) Dickens

Vernita “Nedie” F. (Slater) Dickens, age 73, of Oak Hill, passed away Friday, July 29, 2016 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus. Nedie was born in Oak Hill on December 11, 1942 to the late John and Elizabeth (Crabtree) Slater. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John Dickens.

She is survived by her children, Betsi (Clay) Arbogast, of Oak Hill, Ed (Amy) Dickens, of Waverly, Andy (Carina) Dickens, of Oak Hill; grandchildren, Reid (Marissa) Arbogast, Stephanie Arbogast, Jordan Henry, Virginia and Olivia Dickens and Chase, Conor and Addison Dickens. Also surviving are two sisters, Eleanor (Roger) Evans and Dianne (Russ) Bush; one brother, John (Terri) Slater and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Nedie was a 1960 graduate of Oak Hill High School. She was also a lifetime member of Monroe Chapel Church. She retired from Jackson County MRDD as an aide and also worked part-time for Buckeye Community Services in Jackson. She was a beloved mom, grandma, sister, aunt and friend. She will be missed by all.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 4, 2016 at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill with Pastor Randy Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in C.M. Cemetery.
