Charles J. Burton, age 76, of Jackson, passed away on Friday July 8, 2016 at Heartland of Jackson. He suffered from an illness for many years, and came to the end of his journey bravely and at peace.
Born on January 11, 1940, he was the second child born to the late Archie and Ella (Cheek) Burton. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Charlie Burton, Jr., in 1996, and a brother, David E. Burton.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley (Burton) Burton; son, Randy (Elizabeth) Burton; grandchildren: William Conley, Elijah Conley and Victoria Conley; and sisters, Rosabelle Ray and Carolyn Wyatt. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Charlie was an independent gas station operator for most of his working life. He loved vintage automobiles – especially his 1937 Nash Lafayette. He also enjoyed going to car shows.
Funeral services will held at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 13 at 6 p.m. with Josh Schauer officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the funeral service at the funeral home from 4 to 6 p.m.
