Velma (Mullins) Ponthier

Velma (Mullins) Ponthier, age 70, passed away May 12, 2016 at her home in Jackson, Ohio with her family by her side. She was born February 19, 1946 in Letcher County, Kentucky to the late Dewey and Flora Mullins.

She is survived by her daughters, Angela Harper of Jackson, Ohio and Misty (Donald) Johnson of Lafayette, Louisiana; her son, Shawn (Alice) Goble of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; her step-children: Kathy, Thomas, Clint, Charlie, Stephanie, and Roxanne; her brother, Wayne (Brenda) Mullins of Jackson, Ohio; 26 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Ponthier; her daughter, Lori Harper; and a brother, Robert Lee Bentley.

Velma was a domestic problem solver; caring for 10 children and even after her children were grown, she continued to provide care for her great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Per her wishes, no public services will be held. A private family service will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the home of her brother, Wayne.
