Peggy Marie (Hankey) Cheney

Peggy Marie (Hankey) Cheney, aged 68, of Shreveport, Louisiana, passed away February 27, 2016 at Highland Place Rehab and Nursing Center following a battle with cancer.

Peggy was born May 9, 1947, in Chillicothe, Ohio, and was the daughter of the late William and Louise Hankey (Dixon) of Jackson, Ohio. She was a 1965 graduate of Jackson High School and the College of Agriculture and Home Economics at the Ohio State University. She held a Master’s Degree in Divinity from Texas Christian University and served as a hospital and hospice chaplain in Shreveport, LA.

Peggy lived her life in various places, including Ohio, Florida, Indiana, Montana, Texas, and Louisiana. She thoroughly enjoyed learning, reading, singing, and her cats.

She is survived by her sister Susie (Hankey) Washam of Jackson, OH and Playa del Carmen, MX and her two daughters, Lisa Bennett Culbertson of Leander, TX, and Kathryn Bennett Suarez, of Carrollton, TX. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Gregory Coleman Culbertson, Aaron Thomas Culbertson, and Emily Paige Culbertson; her nephews, Caleb Fields and Corey Fields; and her beloved cats, Sugar, Leo, and Snickers.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Hankey,

A memorial service will be held at the historic Broadway Street C&O Railroad Depot of Jackson, Ohio on Sunday, May 8th at 2 p.m. with fellowship and food to follow.
