Caroline Louise Wade Spires of Jackson, Ohio, went to be with the Lord and loved ones that have passed before her, on February 5, 2016. She was born in Wellston, Ohio on July 6, 1923 to Florence Irene (Edwards) and William Grant Wade.
At the age of 92, Caroline had lived a very full and rewarding life. She was most proud of her loving children, Daniel Roy Spires and wife, Janice, Melody Louise Spires Ray and husband Francis, Stephen Karl Spires and wife Mary Faith. Also dear to her heart were her grandchildren, Missy Wilson, Bub Ray, Becky Spires, Roy Spires, Cliff Spires, Greg Ray, Steve Spires Jr., Cynthia Spires and Stephanie Spires Sharp.
She was fortunate enough to enjoy and treasure 16 great-grandchildren. Remarkably, four great-great-grandchildren had the pleasure of her smile, and a brother, John Thomas Wade still at her side.
When not busy with kids, she loved attending church no matter how far from home, to perform the caulk art drawings she was well known for. Also sewing, painting, writing poetry and publishing her book, Feeling, Fantasy and Fun, were among her passions. If that didn’t keep her busy enough she was planning the next remodeling project.
A poem she wrote comes to mind when we think of her excitement from a knock on the door: “Come sit with me and talk a while, I’m always intrigued by your smile, and as I look into your eyes, your mind and mine will harmonize and each of us will surely know that with the conversation flow, our threads of thoughts become intertwined and I am now no longer blind, to all your hopes and your small fear, come sit with me, let me draw near.”
For several years operating a small country store and raising children kept her busy, then she finished out her career with the Veterans Affairs, Chillicothe as Chief of Valuables.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roy K. Spires; mother, Florence; father, William; brothers, Robert William, Joseph Orin, William Clyde Wade and beloved grandson, Scott Spires.
Funeral service will be held at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home in Jackson, Ohio, Saturday, February 13 at 1 p.m. with Jim McFadden officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 12 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
