Daniel Eugene Walton, 78, of Wellston, Ohio, left the arms of his loving family and entered into his heavenly home on Thursday, December 10, 2015, at Jenkins Care Community. He was born in Wellston July 20, 1937, to the late Everett Isam Walton and Lucille Wetzel Walton.
He was a 1955 graduate of Wellston High School and attended Ohio University. Before moving back to Wellston, he owned many businesses and Texaco Stations in the Columbus, Ohio, and surrounding areas. For 28 years he was the owner-operator of Oak Grove Coal, and since 1982 he was the owner-operator of Trapper’s Dan Southend Bar, Home of the Working Man. He raised 15 horses at the Walton Stables on Mulga Road and won several horse races at Scioto Downs Race Track.
He was a great supporter of Wellston High School sports programs and very active in the Jackson County Republican Party. He was a member of the Wellston Historical Association and was honored by the Wellston Area Chamber of Commerce as Man of the Year for his efforts in clearing all the access roads into Wellston during the blizzard of 1977-1978. He was a member of the Lakeview Baptist Chapel of Hamden and always proud of his “south end of Wellston” heritage.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert F. Walton, and his brother-in-law, Larry Arthur, both in 2007.
He is survived by two sons, Daniel Eugene (Rebecca) Walton II of Wellston and David Everett Walton of Sunbury, Ohio; two daughters, Diana Jane (Chuck) Petrie of Newark, Ohio, and Dana Jill (Bill) Davis of Mt Vernon, Ohio; a brother, George (Naomi) Walton of Portsmouth, Ohio; a sister, Jayne Walton Arthur, of Wellston; seven grandchildren, Joel, Jade, and James Walton, Krista and Lexa Petrie, and Billy and Sarah Davis; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Friends may call at the Jenkins Funeral Chapel in Wellston on Sunday from 2 until 8 p.m. Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the Jenkins Chapel with Pastor Lamar O’Bryant officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery in Wellston. The family suggests memorials in Danny’s name be made to the Coach Derrow Scholarship, c/o Wellston City Schools, 1 East Broadway, Wellston, Ohio 45692.
