Richard W. “Dick” Woodruff

Richard W. “Dick” Woodruff, age 79, of Wellston, passed away Tuesday morning, October 20, 2015, at the home of his daughter in Wellston. He was born May 24, 1936 in Wellston, Ohio to the late Walter Howard Woodruff and Evelyn Holderman Woodruff.

Dick was retired from the United States Navy after 21 years of service to his country. He was a skilled maintenance man who was formerly employed at Frick-Gallagher Manufacturing, McNally Pittsburg Manufacturing, Jeno’s and the Atomic Plant, to name a few. Dick was a veteran of the Vietnam War, a member of the AmVets and he attended World Outreach Ministries. He enjoyed hunting ginseng and mushrooms, working with his hands, and cheering on the Miami Dolphins and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Dick is survived by his children, Mark Woodruff (Carol) of Nellton, Louisiana, Vickie Bronokowski (Ken) of Wellston, Linda Hull (Greg) of Bellvue, Nebraska and Richard Alan Woodruff (Sue) of Wellston; sisters, Dixie Osborne and Susie Kuhn, both of Wellston; brother, Bob Woodruff of North Carolina, as well as eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and twins on the way, and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Barleon Woodruff in 2008; and brothers, Howard “Doodle” Woodruff and Mike Woodruff.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Rob Ervin officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
