Mary Ann Montgomery

Mary Ann Montgomery, age 71, of North Port, Florida passed away peacefully July 3, 2015 in her home following a long battle with cancer. She was born August 14, 1943 in Byer, Ohio to the late Charles “Earl” Coon and Nellie Perkins Coon. Mary grew up in Wellston, Ohio and was a 1961 graduate of Wellston High School. She married her beloved husband, Tom, on April 7, 1961 and spent 54 wonderful years together. They were blessed with 3 children, 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She worked for the City of Wellston, Ralston Purina, Banquet Foods, Jeno’s Pizza and The Pillsbury Company before retiring as Human Resource Manager in 1995.

After retiring, they spent the next few years between Ohio and Florida before making their full time residence in Florida in 2004. She was an accomplished seamstress, loved to cook, and a wonderful homemaker. Mary had a love for golf. She won the Women’s Club Championship at Fairgreens Country Club in Wellston, Ohio 19 times along with several other golfing awards. She was also an excellent bowler having won several awards and was a member of the team that won the State of Ohio Bowling Championship in 1972. She enjoyed her little dog Lexi who hardly left her side through her entire illness. Her biggest passion in life was taking care of her family. She was not only a mother to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she was their best friend. Words fall short of describing her love, friendship, kindness, caring and just how wonderful she really was. She enjoyed life to the fullest with her family and friends, and will forever be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory and remember her love are husband, Tom, along with her children; Jeffrey (Tina) of Leawood, KS, Todd (Patty) of Matoon, IL and Jodi of North Port, FL. Grandchildren; Lindsay Gerding (Chris), Benjamin Montgomery, Ashleigh Sterr (Wes), Molliann Flynt (Russell), Kayla Mongtomery, T.J. Ousley (Tiffany), Andy Montgomery (Miranda), Connor Montgomery (Makenzie), Spencer Montgomery and Kathryn Montgomery. Great-Grandchildren; Tucker Ousley, Teegan Ousley, Ella Rae Flynt and Sophia Montgomery. Sisters; Charlotte Patrick (Dave), Rena Massie (Gary), Margaret Speakman (Lowell), Karen Dickmann (Tom), Billie Speakman (Kevin), Debra Hill (Gary), Cathy Parsons (Bill), Linda Coon (Sandy) and Rose Gilliland (Dave), as well as several nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

In keeping with Mary’s wishes, her body was cremated. A funeral mass will be held at Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Wellston, Ohio on July 11, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. followed that evening with a Celebration of Life at 6 p.m. at the Fairgreens Country Club that will be open to all family, friends and acquaintances. Interment will be at the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Wellston.

In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate memorial contributions in Mary’s name be given to Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd, Sarasota, FL 34238.
