Donald Alva Cameron, age 74, born April 20, 1941, went to be with the Lord on June 14, 2015 at 1:21 p.m. Don was a lifelong resident of Jackson, Ohio. He attended Jackson High School and Manpower Training. He served in the Army and was a retired semi-truck driver, driving cross-country and traveling through 49 different states. Don was a multi-million miler honoree. He drove for many companies including Cheyenne Express for 19 years, PFT, Prime, Robertson, Wooster, and retired from Celadon.
Don is survived by his wife, Martha Kay Rosser Wheeler-Cameron. Kay and Don were teenage sweethearts who reunited after 56 years. Don’s first wife, Samey Jean Harmon Cameron preceded him in death, and from this union he leaves four daughters: Donna Jean (Skip) Goble of Circleville, Ohio, Debbie Sue (David) Jones of West Columbia, Texas, Shannon Louise (Bob) Brady of Jackson, Ohio, and Lillian Grace Cameron (Kevin Pennington) of Beaver, Ohio. Fondly known as “Pappy,” he leaves 10 grandchildren: David Jones, Candy Jones, Misty Jones, Tiffany Sewell, Bobby Brady, Felicia Brady, Matthew Goble, Danielle Royster, Nikki Royster, and Derrick Pennington; 17 great-grandchildren; step-children: Darlene (Don) Carr of Lakeland, Florida, Bill Wheeler of Albany, Ohio, Carl (Cathy) Wheeler of Albany, Ohio, and Angela Buckalew of Cincinnati, Ohio; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; brother, Roy (Zenith) Cameron of Wellston, Ohio; aunts: Eileen Beaumont and Shirley Ann Leach of Jackson, Ohio; special friends, David and Tami Wittcamp of Jackson, Ohio and Bill and Clara Anderson of Albany, Ohio; as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews who Don maintained contact with.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert Roy and Helen Grace (Leach) Cameron and a brother, Hubert “Chub” Cameron.
Don had a plaque which he often shared, and it stated, “Be reasonable, do it my way.” The grandchildren will always remember his age 2 rule. Don was a strong influence in the lives of his family and he loved them deeply. He said, “The good Lord knew what I loved most when he gave me my girls, and my life was complete upon reuniting with Kay.” He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m. and again on Thursday, June 18, 2015 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2015 with Pastor Vicki Bays officiating at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.
