Mona Flax

Mona Flax, age 70, passed away on her 70th birthday, April 16, 2015, at the James Cancer Hospital. She was born in Jackson, Ohio, in 1945 to Levert and Edna Mae (Gregory) Hutchison, who preceded her in death.

Mona is survived by her sister, Anna Roshon; husband, Richard Flax; daughter, Melea Blaskovich; sons, David (Tracey) Wilson, Kevin Flax and Aaron (Tiffany) Flax; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She devoted most of her adult life to helping others through her employment with three Ohio hospitals: Mercy in Springfield, St. Elizabeth in Dayton, and Madison County in London. She began her career in volunteer administration, then expanded into development and marketing. She retired in 2012 after serving as Executive Director of the MCH Foundation and the hospital’s Chief Development and Marketing Officer.

Through her efforts, the Madison County Hospital Foundation expanded philanthropic support for many hospital programs including receiving funding to establish the Battelle Breast Care Center and establishing the Breast Cancer Endowment Fund which provides cancer screenings and treatments for women regardless of ability to pay. Her beautiful spirit was an inspiration to all.

Services are scheduled at the First United Methodist Church of London, 52 N Main St., London, Ohio, with community greeting on Friday, April 24 from 3 to 7 p.m. and also on April 25 for one hour prior to the Saturday memorial service at 11 a.m. The memorial service will be officiated by Reverend Steven Rodgers and Pastor John Crutchfield. Lunch at the church will immediately follow the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers and in celebration of Mona’s 70th birthday, the family requests that donations be made to the Breast Cancer Endowment Fund which she held nearest to her heart, c/o Madison Health Foundation, 210 N. Main St., London, OH 43140, or to the First United Methodist Church of London.
