Barbara S. Fisher

Barbara S. Fisher, age 66, of Oak Hill, Ohio passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Heartland of Jackson. She was born September 19, 1948 in Pikeville, Kentucky to the late Harmon and Alpha (Damron) Newsome.

Barbara was a 1967 graduate of Oak Hill High School. She worked at the Kroger’s deli from 1993 thru 1999. She was also employed at the Oak Hill Hospital for 27 years, and then she worked at Holzer Hospital of Jackson for 10 years until retiring in October of 2010. She attended the Evangelical Community Church in Oak Hill.

She is survived by her husband of almost 48 years, Harold “Buzz” Fisher of Oak Hill, Ohio; daughters, Leslie Sue (Paul) Rice of Wellston, Ohio, Cheryl Lynn (Larry) McCoy of Oak Hill, Ohio, and Tara Dawn (Mike) Abrams of Jackson, Ohio; grandchildren, Larry Edward McCoy, Jessica Lynn McCoy, Megan Sue Rice, Aaron Michael Abrams, Laura Leigh Abrams, Kendra Dawn Abrams, and Emily Paige Abrams; great-grandchildren, Austin Michael McCoy and Joseph Hunter Woods; brothers, Ronald (Patsy) Newsome of Jackson, Ohio, Bennett (Judy) Newsome of South Webster, Ohio, Dennis (Susan) Newsome and Denver Lee Newsome all of Athens, Ohio; as well as several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Conley Newsome; sister, Eileen Williams; infant sister, Geraldine Newsome; infant brother, Arnold Newsome; and granddaughter, Brittany Paige Rice.

The family would to say a special thanks to the staff of Heartland Nursing Home where Barbara has spent her last three months. They would also like to thank the community for all their cards and prayers and the monetary gifts from Oak Hill High School and the Evangelical Church, Vega Church, all the other local churches.

Friends may call at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 from 2 p.m.-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Stan Howard officiating.
