Garnet Lucille Baxter, age 72, of Jackson, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at the Adena Regional Medical Center of Chillicothe. She was born October 2, 1942 in Jackson County, Ohio to the late Bill and Dorothy West McCumber. She enjoyed spending time with her children and especially with her grandchildren. She attended the Tick Ridge Church and also the West Junction Church as a young woman.
She is survived by her children, Donna Bellomy and husband Jay Matherly of Bessemer City, North Carolina, John Scott Jr. and wife Tamra Baxter of Richmond Dale, Ohio, Marsha and husband Alan Strickland of Oak Hill and Brian Lee Baxter of Broken Bow, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews and a special sister-in-law, Margaret McCumber.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Richard Scott Baxter; daughter, Melinda Sue Hudson; and brother and sisters, Fred McCumber, Mable Beer and Goldie Osborne.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Fulton officiating and burial to follow in the Little Mound Cemetery in Richmond Dale, Ohio. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2015 at the funeral home.
