Geraldine A. “Gerry” Jones Ponn

Geraldine A. “Gerry” Jones Ponn, age 77, of Wellston, passed away Friday, October 31, 2014, at the Four Winds Community in Jackson, Ohio. She was born July 15, 1937 in Wellston, Ohio to the late Homer E. Jones and Edith M. Camink Jones.

Gerry was a 1955 graduate of Wellston High School. After 15 years of service, she retired from the University of Rio Grande, where she served as a secretary in the health services department. Gerry was a member of the Chase Chapter #162 Order of the Eastern Star and she received the Rainbow Girls Grand Cross of Color. She enjoyed singing, cooking and being with her family.

Gerry is survived by her husband of 52 years, Herbert E. Ponn, whom she married on October 20, 1962; daughter, Teresa Ponn Lemaster (Jim) of Wellston; son, Deron Ponn (Kathy) of Blacklick, Oh.; five grandchildren, Leah Bunnell Simpson (Cole), Lane Bunnell, Cassie Wilson (Sean), Danielle Mehl (Mike) and Ken Lemaster; two great-grandchildren, whom she loved very much, Brooklyn Wilson and Madyson Mehl; siblings, Robert Jones (Mary Helen) of Florida, Eleanor Jolly of Wellston, Herbert Jones (Janet) of Marysville, Marilyn Taylor of Chillicothe, Florace Morrow (Don) of Columbus, Marcy Newvahner of Jackson and Richard Jones (Janice) of Ashville; brother-in-law, Clair Ponn of Wilkesville, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Phyllis Miller.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 7:30 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston, where Eastern Star services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Barry Benson officiating.
