Olive Jean (Hunter) Mapes

Olive Jean Mapes (Hunter), age 92, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Sanctuary Place at Tuttle Crossing. Born December 7, 1921 in Jackson, Ohio to the late Fred S. and Mary Alma (Garrett) Hunter.

Jean is preceded in death by three brothers, Norman, Paul, and Charles; sister, Wilma; granddaughter, Tracy Lynn (Heap) Healy; daughter-in-law, Mary Alice (Kidwell) Mapes, wife of son, Larry Mapes.

Graduating beauty school, Jean worked as a beautician for 20 years. While living in Granville and Newark, Ohio, she was a caretaker for elderly people and a former employee of a cable company. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and travel. Jean loved art, and had natural talent for decorating. She was a docent for the Licking County Art Association in Newark, for many years.

She is survived by daughter, Sandra Lee (Mapes) Heap of Dublin; sons, Larry Jon Mapes of Columbus, and Daniel Keith Mapes and his wife Olga P. (Syrbu) of Cape Coral, FL; sister-in-law, Dorthy Hunter of Jackson, OH; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends Friday, September 26, from 11 a.m. until time of procession to cemetery at 12 p.m. at the Tidd Family Funeral Home, 5265 Norwich Street in Hilliard. Interment in Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
