Rita Ferne Smith, age 80, of Jackson, formerly of Oak Hill, Ohio, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. She was born in Oak Hill, Ohio to the late Leslie and Jennie Mae (McGhee) Smith.
Rita was employed by the Highway Restaurant in Jackson and Jackson City Schools from which she retired.
She is survived by nephews, Brian Brown of Walkerton, Indiana and Gary (Tara) Brown of North Liberty, Indiana; special great-nephews, Zachary and Dakota Brown of North Liberty, Indiana whom she cared a lot about; an aunt, Imogene McGhee; as well as several cousins, relatives, and friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Edwin McGhee and Leslie “June” Smith Jr. and a sister, Betty Lou (Smith) Brown.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Herman Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at C.M. Cemetery of Oak Hill, Ohio.
