George Robert “Bob” Sims

George Robert “Bob” Sims, age 84, of Oak Hill, Ohio passed away Monday, January 6, 2014 at Holzer Medical Center of Gallipolis, Ohio. Bob was born April 9, 1929 to the late Dewey and Nellie (Cooper) Sims of Oak Hill. He graduated from Oak Hill High School class of 1947 and attended Ohio University of Athens where he graduated with a degree in Accounting. He worked as an accountant for Ashland Oil in Ashland, KY before transferring to Houston, TX. After leaving Ashland Oil he was employed with LTV of Houston where he later retired. After retiring, he made his residence in Huntsville, TX before returning back home after 42 years to Oak Hill in 2008. Bob is a veteran of the United States Army, having served two years. Bob was a 50plus year member of the Masonic Lodge in Oak Hill and Portland Masonic Lodge #366. He also attended St. Paul Methodist Church of Oak Hill.

Along with his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his sister, Margret Edna Dykes; paternal grandparents, Robert and Edna Sims; maternal grandparents, George W. and Margaret Cooper.

He is survived by an aunt, Rosella G. Sims of Oak Hill; cousins, Jim (Diana) Sims of Oak Hill; special friend, Phyllis Hughes; as well as many other family members and special friends.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday January 10, at Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill, Ohio with Rev. Stan Howard officiating. Burial will follow at C.M. Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in his honor to either, The American Heart Association, PO Box 15120, Chicago, IL 60693 or the American Cancer Society, 5555 Frantz Road, Dublin Ohio 43017.
