William Leon Morgan

William Morgan, 67, of Wellston, passed from this life Thursday, December 26, 2013, at the Holzer Medical Center – Jackson. The son of the late John and Ida Fern Brunton Morgan, he was born November 12, 1946, at Oak Hill.

Bill was a long-time employee of the Gem Bottling Co. in Wellston. He was very active with the youth of the community; having served 17 years as a scout leader to both boys and girls. He was also coach to many aspiring athletes. He was honored in 2010, by becoming a member of the Wellston Recreation Hall of Fame for his 25 years of coaching. Bill was a member of the Faith Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Garnet who he married May 30, 1969, at the Victory Chapel Church near Jackson. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Billy (Jennie), Charlie, and Angie (Eric Rippeth), all of Wellston. Bill’s favorite title was “Pa” because that’s what his grandchildren, Morgan Sword and Raims Morgan called him – they were his world.

Other survivors include his sister, Margaret “Peg” Morgan of Wellston; his good friend and brother-in-law, “Bub” Bocook; Garnet’s other siblings, Steve Bocook and Melody Workman; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his best buddy, Skippy.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Jack.

Friends and family will gather Sunday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Huntley & Cremeens Funeral home of Wellston. A funeral service will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow in the Sardis Church Cemetery near Oak Hill.
