Charles (Chuck) E. Perkins

Charles (Chuck) E. Perkins passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2013. He was born on July 18, 1926.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Minnie (Sharp) Perkins; one son, Michael A. Perkins of Canal Winchester; one grandson, Michael C. Perkins; two granddaughters, Angie (Nick) Evans and Megan Perkins; and two great-grandchildren, Sarah Evans and Alexia Glover. Also surviving is one sister, Sandra (John) Wood of Jackson.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Goldie (Morris) Perkins; five brothers, Russell, Leonard, Elwood, Roger and Tom; and five sisters, Jane Casebolt, Polly Roe, Judy Phipps, Juanita Downey and Loretta Sech. Also preceding him in death were two children, Judith Ann and Charles William.

Chuck served his country in World War II, serving in the United States Marine Corps. He saw action in the South Pacific from 1943-1945. He was a member of the First Armored Amphibian Battalion, B Company. He was the Commander of the VFW post 1598 in Columbus for 15 years. Locally, he served as the Commander and Vice Commander for the D.A.V. Chapter 45. He was also very involved with other local veterans organizations such as the Amvets and VFW.

Some of the best years of Chuck’s life came later when he came to know the Lord and was saved. He was a proud member of the Jackson First Church of the Nazarene for many years and loved his church and church family.

Friends may call at the Lewis-Gillum Funeral Home in Jackson on Thursday, May 30 from 2 to 8 p.m., where funeral services will be held on Friday, May 31 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mike Percell and Rev. Wayne Searls officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairmount Cemetery with military graveside services being performed by the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 45.
