John Spearry will be speaking at the Wellston High School 2013 Graduation, set for Sunday, May 26 at 2 p.m. at WHS.
Spearry is a 1988 Wellston High School graduate and is celebrating his 25th class reunion this weekend. John played football and ran track for the Golden Rockets. He was part of a big win over Jackson in football in 1986 that ended a 7-season losing streak to the Ironmen, and he was captain of Wellston’s first-ever boys track and field team to win the TVC in 1988.
Following high school John attended Miami University in Oxford and graduated with a degree in English Literature with a focus on Political Science. While in college John was president of Kappa Alpha Order fraternity where he was awarded the “President of the Year” award by Miami University.
Following college, John had a little trouble finding a job so he started washing cars for a Chevrolet Dealership in Cleveland. He soon identified a sales opportunity within the company and began to quickly move up the corporate ladder. He has since managed operations for some of Ohio’s largest automotive groups, including Fortune 500 Company Penske Automotive Group.
In 2004 John had the opportunity to become managing partner for Lexus of Akron-Canton where the dealership soon became the fastest growing Lexus dealership in the country. In 2009, John was recognized by the Akron Chamber of Commerce when he was awarded the coveted “Excellence in Business Award” for the community’s most influential business. John is currently the managing partner for Metro Lexus in Cleveland, Ohio’s largest Lexus dealership.
John’s hobbies still include sports, where he was recruited by the Cleveland Browns to conduct seminars for their Player Development, as well as working with several other players and coaches for the Indians and Cavaliers.
John sits on the board of directors for the Akron Art Museum and works closely with the “Charities for the Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital” and many other important charities.
John is the proud father of 3 children – Carter, who is finishing up his freshman year as an honor student at St. Ignatius high school and daughters Peyton and Reagan who are finishing up the 5th and 1st grades in Rocky River, OH.
