Wilfred E. “Gene” DeMers, age 84, of McArthur, passed away Friday, May 17, 2013, at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio. He was born November 5, 1928 in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Alphonse DeMers and Francis Reagen DeMers. Gene was a former self-employed clock maker.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Steinbrook DeMers; sons, Douglas Paul DeMers of Lafayette, Louisiana and Barney Bland of Youngstown; as well as 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Gene was preceded in death by sons, Dale Andrew DeMers and Denny Floyd Bland and his brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Betty Jo DeMers.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
