Betty L. Hammond

Betty L. Hammond, age 90, of Wellston, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013, at the Jenkins Memorial Nursing Facility in Wellston. She was born September 13, 1922 in Allensville, Ohio to the late Howard C. Tucker and Leafy V. Slagle Tucker.

Betty was a 1939 graduate of Wellston High School. She was a loving housewife, mother and a former employee of the Hercules Trouser Company in Wellston. In previous years, Betty, along with her husband Glen, also managed the Noel’s Kingboy in Jackson and the Western Auto Store in Oak Hill. She was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church in Wellston where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Wibbler Class; past Matron of the Wellston Chase Chapter #162 Order of the Eastern Star and a past board member of the Order of Rainbow for girls.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Karen L. Hammond of Wellston; sisters, Ruth Mantz of Reynoldsburg and Patty Hamer of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Peggy and Don Walton of Wellston; sister-in-law, Wanda Willis of New Philadelphia, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glendon Hammond in 1986; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Marjorie Tucker; sister and brother-in-law, June and Paul McKinniss and brothers-in-law, Joe Mantz and George Willis.

At Betty’s request, there will be no public calling hours. Private graveside service will be held on Monday at the Ridgewood Cemetery in Wellston with Pastor Brian Vinson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions be given to the American Cancer Society, 138 Marietta Road, Suite D, Chillicothe, Ohio 45601 or Hope United Methodist Church, 219 East First Street, Wellston, Ohio 45692.
