Olen G. McCorkle

Olen G. McCorkle, age 79, of Hamden, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at his home. He was born May 26, 1932 in Oak Hill, Ohio, the son of the late Carl McCorkle and Ethel Martin McCorkle.

Olen was a 1950 graduate of Oak Hill High School. He was a combat veteran of the United States Army having served with the 2nd U.S. Infantry Division during the Korean Conflict. Olen was a life member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers for 50 consecutive years from July 1951 to July 2001. He was a highly respected craftsman by his peers. Olen was a member of the Grace Bible Church of Jackson and was an avid fisherman.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Donna Eberts McCorkle; children, Timothy McCorkle (Jennifer) of Lowell, Oregon and Cara Wellman (William) of Hamden; grandchildren, Tiffany McCorkle, Braden Wellman and Bailey Wellman; great-grandchild, Malinda McCorkle; brothers and sisters, Jenalys Hardy of Florida, Baeotta Sgarro (Rock) of Beavercreek, Oh., Rodney McCorkle (Judy) of Jackson, Paul McCorkle (Marsha) of Oak Hill, Conard McCorkle (Vera) of Oak Hill and Marty McCorkle of Athens; mother-in-law, Frances Eberts of Hamden, as well as several nieces, nephews cousins and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by children Sharon McCorkle and Darren Martin, and his siblings, Marjorie Ondera, Blodwyn Goldman, Gilda McCorkle, Glenna LeGrand, Donald McCorkle and Homer McCorkle.

Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with David Reid officiating. Burial will be in the Hamden Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post 371 of Wellston. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Grace Baptist Church of Jackson, in care of The Comfort Inn, Jackson.
