Gladys Mae Hawkins

Gladys Mae Hawkins, age 80, of Columbus, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 16, 2012 at her home. She was born in Oak Hill, Ohio on April 26, 1931 to the late John and Sarah (Leonard) Coleman.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Gale “Doc” Conley; second husband, Loren “Bud” Hawkins; grandson, Chad Elliott James; and ten siblings.

Gladys was the loving mother to Sandra Mae Conley-James, Rebecca (Ken) Reid, C. Gail (Miles) Larrick, Rick (Mary) Conley, Michael Dean Conley, Randy J. (Beckie) Conley, and Patricia A. (Darryll) Conley-Winston. Gladys was a wonderful grandmother to 15 grandchildren and great-grandmother to 28 great-grandchildren. Gladys also leaves behind her best friend, Louise Lockwood; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Gladys was in many Euchre clubs and she enjoyed getting together with her friends, dancing and listening to bluegrass music, especially with Bud’s band, The Hawks Nest.

Friends were to call on Thursday, April 19 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Schoedinger North Chapel, 5554 Karl Rd., Columbus, Ohio where funeral services were to be held on Friday, April 20, at 10 a.m. followed by graveside service at 2 p.m. at C.M. Cemetery, Oak Hill, Ohio, with Rev. Herman Stewart officiating. In lieu of flowers donations in Gladys’s memory may be made to Mt. Carmel Hospice, 6150 E. Bro ad St., Columbus, Ohio 43213.
