Doris E. Smith, age 84, of Wellston, passed away Sunday morning, March 25, 2012, at her home. She was born August 8, 1927 in Radcliff, Ohio, the daughter of the late Delmont H. Jeffers and Emma E. Webb Jeffers.
Doris was a 1944 graduate of Vinton Rural High School and a 1970 graduate of the Ohio University. She was retired from the Wellston City School system where she taught home economics at Wellston High School for 22 years. Doris was also the former owner and operator of Smith Photography Studio in Wellston. She was a lifelong faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Her love for life revolved around her family, her church, and the students and organizations at Wellston High School.
In 1993, Doris was given the honor of being named the Grand Marshal of the Wellston Ohillco Festival. In 2011, she was the recipient of the Wellston Alumni President’s Award. She was very proud of both awards.
She is survived by her children, Don Harold Smith of Cleveland, Susan Eileen McDaniel (Larry) of California, Bruce Wayne Smith (Kathy) of Georgia, Angela Rae Butcher (David) of Wellston, and Nancy Ellen Harris of Jackson; grandchildren, Laura, Leslie, Amanda, Carson, Maggie, Trisha, Steven, Keith, Nathan, and Jennifer; great-grandchildren, Owen, Emily, Sydney, Elin, Autumn, Claire and Elise, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Besides her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Lyndsey McDaniel; daughter-in-law, Deanne Smith; brothers, Eldon Jeffers, Seldon Jeffers and Woodrow Jeffers; and sisters, Leona Calvin, Myrta Boring, Bernadean Eberts Kinsel and Jessie Wines.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Paula Christian and Pastor Rob Ervin officiating. At Doris’ request, cremation will follow the service.
