The 1886 Jackson County Chattel Tax assessment was extracted from the lists that appeared in the Jackson Journal newspaper. Keep in mind that this is a chattel tax list and is thus more comprehensive than just a land tax list. These lists are also important because there is no 1890 regular Federal census for Jackson county due to the fire which destroyed those records many decades ago.
