William Sowers

William Edward “Bill” Sowers, age 76, of Wellston, passed away Monday, July 12 at his home. He was born September 3, 1944, in Vinton County, Ohio, son of the late Glenn and Margaret Allender Sowers. Bill was a 1962 graduate of Wellston High School and attended Ohio University. He was a veteran of the United States Army who served during the Vietnam War. Bill was a former employee of Austin Powder for over 15 years, then later retired from Frick-Gallagher Manufacturing in Wellston. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Coalton, the American Legion Post 371 of Wellston and the V.F.W. Post 9092 in Wellston.

Bill is survived by his wife, Nancy Myers Sowers; sisters, Jean Ward and Joann Haskins; brother-in-law, Robert Blue; brother-in-law and sister-in–law, Stephen and Sheri Myers; nieces and nephews, Valerie (Mike) Dixon, Sue (Brad) Warnimont, Jenny (Randy) Coleman, Matthew (Melinda) Haskins and William (Molly) Haskins; along with several great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends. Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by sister, Judy Blue; nephew, Doug Ward; and brothers-in-law, Charles Haskins and Clarence “Beanie” Ward.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 14 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 15, at 10:30 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor William A. Rawlins officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Coalton Cemetery.
