Samuel I. Wilt, Jr.

Samuel I. Wilt, Jr., age 77, of Wellston, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at the Holzer Medical Center in Jackson, Ohio.  He was born May 10, 1943 in Vinton County, Ohio to the late Samuel I. Wilt, Sr. and Bernice D. Vickers Wilt. 

Sam was a 1961 graduate of Allensville High School. He was a former welder for Sands Hill Coal Company as well as a former employee of McNally Pittsburg Manufacturing. Sam later retired from Frick-Gallagher Manufacturing. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, watching NASCAR, and sitting on his porch watching the traffic go by. Sam took good care of his family and was a “Dad” figure to many. He always made sure that his family had what they needed and shared many “firsts” with the nieces and nephews. 

Sam is survived by siblings, Jane Robison, Larry Wilt and Olan Wilt (Pam Truman) all of Londonderry; sisters-in-law, Mary Young of Wellston and Charlotte Hubbard of Jackson; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. 

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Betty Hunter Wilt in 2014; and brothers, Robert Wilt and Gene Wilt.  

Calling hours will be Saturday, March 13, 2021, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will follow the calling hours at 1 p.m. with Pastor Tim Jones officiating. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery. For those choosing to attend the services, facial coverings are required inside the building along with the practice of social distancing.
