Roger “Dale” Rose

Roger “Dale” Rose, 67, of Jackson, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at the Cleveland Clinic following a brief illness. Dale was born June 2, 1946, in Eifort, Ohio, to the late Roy and Minnie Stiles Rose of Jackson, Ohio. Dale was a member of the U.S. Army. He was a Viet Nam veteran.

Dale is survived by his wife, Nina (Butts); daughter, Kelly (David) Millet, of Solon, Ohio; son, Jason (Emily) Rose of Nottingham, New Hampshire; son, Mitchell Rose of Columbus, Ohio; four grandchildren, Jacob and Talia Millet and Eva and Sam Rose; sisters, Norma Jean Dow of Jackson, Ohio; Delores Hughes of Oak Hill, Ohio; and Mary King of Oak Hill, Ohio; brothers, Johnnie (Cindy) Rose of Jackson, Ohio; and Larry (Cathy) Rose of Harrisburg, North Carolina; and special niece, Erica (Chris) Roth and their children, Alex and Corin of Harrisburg, North Carolina. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Anna Butts of Wellston, Ohio; sister-in-law, Judy (Lyndell) Mills of Columbus, Ohio; brother-in-law, William L. Butts (Sandy) of Springdale, Ohio; and brother-in-law, Kevin (Kristin) Butts of Jackson, Ohio. Dale is also survived by many special nieces and nephews, who he loved very much and who he loved to tease. He was proud of each and every one of them. Countless other relatives, beloved friends, and cherished neighbors also enriched his life daily–as he did theirs. Dale was a well-loved man.

In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy “Bud” Rose of Jackson; brothers-in law, John Dow of Jackson, Ohio; Paul Hughes of Oak Hill, Ohio; and Loren King of Oak Hill, Ohio; nephews, Ricky and Mark Rose of Jackson; Chad Gilliland of Jackson; Angelina Allen of Oak Hill; and his beloved father-in-law, William L. “Bill” Butts.

Dale was a heavy equipment operator most of his life. He retired from PSC Metals in Columbus, Ohio, in 2011. He was also a former employee of A.P. Green Refractories and a former employee of Greg Fields. He made a positive influence on many lives in his 67 years. He was always a positive person who lived his life in an open, honest way. He was an avid sports fan–especially baseball. He was a member of the Jackson High School Class of 1965. He was a stand-out Jackson varsity baseball player all four years of high school. He was given the name “Papa Baseball” by some of the boys he coached over the years. He loved the Ironmen, the Browns, the Reds, and Ohio State with a fierce passion.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, 2014, at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home in Jackson, Ohio, with Reverend Wendell Vermillion officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2014. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dale Rose Memorial Baseball Scholarship Fund at the Jackson City Schools Treasurer’s Office, 450 Vaughn Street, Jackson, Ohio, or Grace United Methodist Church, Jackson, Ohio.
