Michael Hayes, age 58, of Wellston, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at his home. He was born April 10, 1956 in Columbus, Ohio to James Dale Hayes and Ruby Ellen Thomas Hayes. Michael was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a former construction worker and security man and he was an avid motorcycle enthusiast.
Michael is survived by his mother, Ruby Hayes of Saltville, Va.; children, Jessica Amber Hayes and Jeremy Dale Hayes, both of Athens; brothers, Ted Hayes of Dexter, Larry Hayes of Columbus, Jim Hayes of Marion, Va. and Terry Hayes of Saltville, Va.; sisters, Julia Hayes of Saltville, Va. and Cora Tripp of Vineland, N.J.; companion, Lisa Johnston of Wellston; mother of his children, Julie Francke Veach of Athens, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Dale Hayes and his brother, Pete Hayes.
In keeping with Michael’s wishes, his body was cremated and burial of his cremains will be on the family farm in Saltville, Va. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions in Michael’s memory be given to the Wounded Warrior’s Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, Florida 32256.
