James Wendell Denney Jr.

James Wendell Denney Jr., age 80, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at the Jenkins Care Community in Wellston. He was born in Jackson, Ohio on Oct. 26, 1939 to the late James Wendell Denney Sr. and Betty (Arthur) Denney. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Madge, and a brother, Tim.

He is survived by his wife, Ramona Joan (Gilkey) Denney; son, Steven W. (Kimberly) Denney; daughter, Kristi Denney; grandchildren: Austin James Denney and Amber Denney; brothers and sisters: Francis, Darlene, Janie, Doris, Fred and Bill; along with several nieces and nephews.

James was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from GTE and had served as a Township Trustee for Scioto Township. He was a real estate agent for ERA Accent II Realty and was one of the founding members of the Appalachian Old Car Club.

Funeral services will be held at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home on Monday, July 20 at 11 a.m. with Fred Denney officiating. Burial with military honors provided by Jackson Chapter 45 – Disabled American Veterans will follow at Pattonsville Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, July 19 from 4 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Jackson County Heart Support Group, 215 Broad Street, Jackson, Ohio 45640. Arrangements are by the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home in Jackson.
