Eddie Hughes

Eddie “Butch” Hughes, age 72, of Oak Hill, passed away Tuesday, September 7 at Cornerstone Hospital in Huntington, WV. He was born June 22, 1949, in Gallipolis to the late William and Opal (Carter) Hughes. 

Survived by his wife of 46 years, Carol Hughes; son, Eddie Hughes (Amanda Pearce); daughter, April (Matt) McFann; grandchildren, Emilee Lewis, Carter Lewis and Brailon McFann; brother, Roger (Vicki) Hughes; sisters-in-law: Connie (Allen) Potter, Linda Miller; brother-in-law, Rick (Sharon) Kelley; nephew, Allen (Charity) Potter; nieces: Heather (Jason) Jones, Kim (Bob) Kidd, Paula McClary, Misty (Larry) Maddy and Holly (Allen) Simpson, Jamie Mathews, Tiffany Kenny and Amy Potter; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces, great nephews and great great nieces and nephews and friends. 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Magdalene Kelley and Frank Kelley; niece Jody Hughes Potter; and nephew, Christopher McGowan.

Butch graduated from Oak Hill High School. He was a retired prison guard from Lucasville Prison. He was an avid Oak Hill Oak sports fan, rooting for both boys’ and girls’ sports.  He was a member of the Oak Hill Freewill Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran as well as a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. 

Friends may call Saturday, September 11 from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill. Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 12 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Allen Simpson officiating.
