Charles Thomas “Charlie” Townsend

Charles Thomas “Charlie” Townsend, age 70, of Jeffersonville, and a former resident of Wellston, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2020, at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio.  He was born Sept. 13, 1949 in Columbus, Ohio, son of the late Charles Edward Townsend and Betty J. Matthews Townsend Ghearing. 

Charlie was a 1967 graduate of Wellston High School.  He was a former bartender at the American Legion, V.F.W. and several local bars in Wellston.  Charlie always had a story to tell and could always make people laugh.  He enjoyed fishing, golfing and watching all sports, and was especially a big fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns. Charlie was a member of the V.F.W. Post 9092 and a former member of the Eagles Lodge.

Charlie is survived by his children, Tiffany Christoph of Jeffersonville and Brian Townsend of West Allis, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Justin, Andrea and Kelsey Townsend and Jacynda Patton; sister, Cindy Townsend of West Virginia; as well as several nieces and nephews. 

Besides his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his step-father, Paul Ghearing; sister, Sally Miller; and niece, Michelle Miller.  In keeping with Charlie’s wishes, his body was cremated.  A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
