David E. Wheatley

David E. Wheatley, age 68, of Wellston, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2015 at his home. He was born July 10, 1947 in Wise, Virginia to the late Jack J. Wheatley and Nellie Jane Kilgore Wheatley.

David was a 1965 graduate of Wellston High School. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, who received two Bronze Stars and two Army Commendations for his service of two tours in Vietnam. David was retired from the CSX Railroad, where he was employed for 34 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 371 of Wellston and he thoroughly enjoyed working on his farm.

He is survived by his children, Kristin Willis (Will) of South Shore, KY, Bobbi Jo Baker (Floyd) of Seattle, WA, and David Wheatley (Lisa) of South Shore, KY; brothers, Gary Wheatley (Kris) of Saltsburg, PA, and Tim Wheatley of Wellston; along with seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including special cousins, Chuck and Kathy King of Wellston and special friend, Teena Dickson of Wellston.

Besides his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Wheatley; sister, June Marie Waldron; and nephew, Brad Waldron.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston, where military honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 371 of Wellston at 7:45 p.m. Additional calling hours will be held Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Neil Wright Funeral Home in Greenup, KY, where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jim McFadden and Pastor J.B. King officiating. Burial will follow in the Wheatley Family Cemetery with military services by the American Legion Post 23 of Portsmouth.
