Elmo David Crabtree

Elmo David Crabtree, age 87, of Jackson, Ohio, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Holzer Medical Center of Jackson. He was born in Jackson to William Floyd Crabtree and Jessie Hatten Crabtree.

Elmo was married to Anna (Adkins) Crabtree on August 11, 1951. Elmo was a World War II veteran, serving in Germany from October 1945 until March 1947, earning an honorable discharge. Elmo was a very friendly person. He loved to read, cook, and loved to hunt and fish with his grandsons. He rescued several dogs from the dog pound. Elmo was a member of the Jackson Apostolic Church for nine years. He was a resident at Four Winds Nursing Facility for 23 months.

Elmo is survived by his wife of 61 years, Anna; daughter, Bonnie (Steve) Coleman of Jackson, Ohio; sister, Virginia Rust of Springfield, Ohio; three grandchildren, Marvin Landrum of Thurman, Ohio, Rodney Landrum of Wellston, Ohio and Angela (Kevin) Henderson of Jackson, Ohio; seven great-grandchildren, Ashley, Lindsey, Brittany, Dakota, Austin, Nathan and James; three great-great-grandchildren, Jaylee, Logan Dale and Addison.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Farrar and her husband, James, of Jackson, Ohio; two brothers, Ora L. Crabtree and his wife, Eva, and Forrest Dale Crabtree and his wife, Ethel, and their daughter, Rebecca; and a great-great-granddaughter, Kaydence Merrill.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Jackson Apostolic Church with Pastor Richard Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery and military graveside service will be provided by the DAV, Chapter 45, of Jackson. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Lewis-Gillum Funeral Home in Jackson, Ohio, as well as one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday at the church.
