Wilbur Wayne Yates

Wilbur Wayne Yates, age 93, of Oak Hill, Ohio, died Tuesday December 31, 2013 at the Four Winds Community in Jackson, Ohio. He was born February 21, 1920 in Oak Hill, Ohio, a son of the late Robert and Etta Miller Yates. Mr. Yates was united in marriage December 2, 1956 to his wife, Ruthie Lee Copley Yates, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Harold (Irene) Yates of Jackson, Ohio, David (Rosemary) Yates of Oak Hill, Ohio, and Lowell (Diana) Yates of Jackson, Ohio; a grandson who he raised as a son, Christopher Yates of Oak Hill, Ohio; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra Harggett; three brothers, Dale Yates, Bill Yates, and infant brother Lowell Yates; and five sisters, Lena Davis, Loretta Wright, Mary Lear, Carolyne Kirkpatrick, and Jeanene Yates.

Mr. Yates was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served during WW II, where he participated in the Red Ball Express in Europe; was a life member of the American Legion, attended the Four Mile Christian Church, and was employed as a milk delivery driver for over 42 years.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2014 in the Bethel Ridge Cemetery with Pastor Charles “Skip” Domigan officiating. Calling hours will not be observed. Arrangements are under the direction of the Cox Burkitt Funeral Home in Beaver, Ohio.
