Paul H. Frick, Jr. died after a long illness at Bickford of Lancaster on Monday, Dec. 3, 2018 in Lancaster, Ohio at the age of 88.
Paul is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons, Richard (Jeanne) of Haskell, NJ, Larry (Marci) of Nicholasville, KY and David (Julie) of Lancaster and step-children, Steve (Candy) George of Nags Head, NC, Karen (Randy) Kirchof of Hillsborough, NC, and Kevin (Temple) George of Columbus, OH. He has five grandchildren, Nathan, Lauren and Hannah Frick and Drew and Eben George, and a great-grandson, Kaiden Kirk. He is also survived by three nephews, Steve (Mari), John (Lori) and Drew Hammond. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul H. Frick, Sr. and Katharine Gelderman Frick; and his sister and brother-in-law, Nancy (Nelson) Frick Hammond.
Paul was born on Feb. 3, 1930 in Philadelphia, PA. He graduated from Cornell University in 1951 with a degree in Economics. He served in the ROTC, was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, and earned a Varsity C in swimming. Upon graduation he was commissioned into the U.S. Army, served in the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged with the rank of 1st Lieutenant in 1953. He earned the Korean Service medal with 2 bronze stars, Commendation Ribbon with medal pendant, United Nations Service Medal, and the National Service Defense Medal.
After working in sales for Ford Motor Company in New York, he joined his father in the family business, Frick-Gallagher Manufacturing Company, based in Wellston, Ohio. He eventually became president of the company until his retirement in 2004. He moved to Lancaster in 1982 and married Nancy in 1987.
In addition to his work, he volunteered in many roles to serve the communities where he lived, including serving on the Wellston City School Board, serving as President of the Wellston Rotary Club and was active in the Sherman Rotary Club in Lancaster.
Serving in various roles with the Boy Scouts of America and serving on the Vestry of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Lancaster, working in the kitchen of Foundation Dinners, driving veterans to appointments for the VA, and tutoring school children at the West After-School program, were some of the other ways he served in later years.
A funeral is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 8 at 11:30 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, located at 134 N. Broad St., Lancaster, Ohio. Calling hours will be observed starting at 10:30 a.m. with a reception to follow the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church or Fairhope Hospice in Lancaster, Ohio. Arrangements are by the Halteman-Fett-Dyer Funeral Home of Lancaster, OH.
