Martha Jewell “Boots” Staten

Martha Jewell “Boots” Staten, age 81, of Wellston, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2013, at Jenkins Care Community in Wellston. She was born February 1, 1932 in Wellston, Ohio to the late Albert C. Woollet and Martha Matilda Jane Martin Woollet.

Martha was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She attended the former Wills Chapel Church and was a member of the Wellston Church of the Nazarene. Martha loved to play bingo and she was a member of the Red Hat Club at Jenkins Care Community, where she was also chosen the nursing home senior citizen queen in 2007.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, John “Tom” Staten; children, John “Tommy” Staten of Wellston, Lucretia “Skeeter” (Jim) Coy of Wellston, Jeffrey (Teresa) Staten of Wellston and Scott (Margie) Staten of Virginia Beach, Va.; grandchildren, Mark, Jill (Donald), Chris (Jamie) Amber, Jeremy, Jason, Josh, Molly, Chelsea, Caitlan, Jeff, Brian and Erin; sister, Nina Wagener of Lancaster, as well as 19 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Martha was preceded in death by granddaughter, Tara Staten and siblings, James Woollet, Florence Tubb, Etta Mae Sullivan, Robert Woollet, Lois Scurlock, John Woollet and Norma Jean Monk.

Calling hours will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Griffith officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
