Lowell Richard Hill

Lowell Richard Hill, age 71, of Wellston, passed away Tuesday morning, Sept. 11, 2018, at his home. He was born Aug. 14, 1947 in Jackson County, Ohio, son of the late Jesse I. Hill and Bessie M. Davis Hill.

Richard was a 1965 graduate of Wellston High School and he retired from Labor Union Local #83. As a hobby, he also worked for Classic Transport, which allowed him and his wife to travel. Richard loved being outdoors farming, raising horses, camping and traveling, and he was always on the hunt for something to buy.

Most importantly, Richard was a family man, whose greatest enjoyment was his grandchildren and spending time with his loved ones and his dog, Willow. He attended Grace Baptist Fellowship Church in Wellston.

Richard is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carolyn M. Phillips Hill; children, Stephen R. Hill (Michelle) of Wellston and Kimberly M. Rowe (Gary) of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Stephanie R. Hill (Ethan Bierhup) of Wellston and Logan Richard Rowe of Chillicothe; siblings, Madge Hill of Wellston, Janice Carter of Oak Hill, Phyllis Henneman (Phil) of Wellston, Wade Hill (Judy) of Jackson, and Mary Ramsey (Roger) of Wellston; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wilma Faught (Glen) of Canal Winchester, Laverne Spires (Arlen) of Gallipolis, Paul Loren Phillips of Wellston, Ronald Gene Phillips (Carole) of Wilkesville, Tom Phillips of Whitehall, and Rana Phillips of Wellston; along with several nieces and nephews, including special nephew, Wayne Smith, and his wife and son, Tammy and Luke.

Besides his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Violet Phillips; grandson, Garren Rowe; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Smith and Patty Phillips; and brothers-in-law, Johnny Phillips, Don Phillips, Clyde Smith and Harold Carter.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Butch Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
