Loretta “Carol” Potter

Loretta “Carol” Potter, 55, passed away after a brief illness at Riverside Methodist Hospital on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at 7:35 p.m. She was born March 3, 1962, in Oak Hill to Janice (Tolliver) Potter and the late Owen Potter. She graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1980 and then from The University of Rio Grande in 1984. Carol was a member of the Pyro Church of Christ and worked as a receptionist at Holzer Clinic in Jackson. She was a loving, caring and compassionate person who always put God first in her life. Although she never had children of her own, she loved her nieces and nephews like they were her own and was affectionately known as “Sis.”

She was preceded in death by her father, Owen Potter and by her brother, Ivan Potter and nephew Ryan Potter.

Carol is survived by her mother, Janice Potter; aunts, Joyce Potter and Sue Tolliver; brothers and sisters, Allen (Connie) Potter, Clyde (Ruthie) Potter, Diana (Jim) Sims, Greg (Carla) Potter and Rhonda (Danny) Butler; sister-in-law, Carol (Canter) Potter; special nieces and nephews, Amy Potter, Allen Wayne (Charity) Potter, Kim (Bob) Kidd, Paula (Steve) McClary, Brandon (Beth) Potter, Jared (Lou) Potter, Jordan (Abby) Potter, Grant (Alicia) Lloyd, Bradley Potter, Carley Potter, Taylor (Erik) Noel and Breanna (Dylan) Butler. Also surviving are great-nieces and nephews, Bobby Kidd, Ashley (Jordan) Strickland, Nathan Kidd, Austin Kidd, Dakota Smith, Kayden Leck, Grace Potter, Sullivan Potter, Elijah Potter, Evan Potter, Emma and Luke Bartram and Aidan Lloyd; one great-great-niece, Madelynn Strickland; and a host of other family members and close friends.

Friends may call Wednesday, April 5, 2017 from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Minister Ronnie Wright officiating. Burial will follow in C. M. Cemetery.
