Kathleen A. Mulhern

Kathleen A. Mulhern, age 88, of Wellston, passed away Friday, May 24, 2019 at Jenkins Care Community in Wellston. She was born March 13, 1931 in Wellston, Ohio to the late William S. Hansgen and Alma K. Abele Hansgen. 

Kathy was a 1949 graduate of Wellston High School, as well as having training with H&R Block and various other accounting courses.  She started her working career right out of high school when she was employed as a secretary for Attorney W.H. Middleton.  In the years following, she was employed as a secretary at McNally Pittsburg Manufacturing; office manager at Jackson Corporation; payroll clerk at Ralston Purina; fiscal officer at Community Action; secretary at Wellston Aerosol; Buckeye Automatic and Rotomatic Corporation; held the following positions with the City of Wellston: Tax Administrator, Wellston City Clerk, Police Dispatcher and Wellston City Auditor; along with owning and operating her own tax preparation business for 20 years. 

Kathy was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Wellston; Altar and Rosary Society; Red Hats Club; Wellston Historical Society and the Wellston Senior Citizens.  In her younger years, Kathy was very active with her children’s school activities including being President of the South School PTA.  She was an avid bowler for many years and held the office of treasurer for the bowling league.  In her spare time, Kathy loved to travel and she had visited every state in the United States but three, Alaska, Washington and Oregon.  Other favorite pastimes included crafting, card-making and genealogy.   

Kathy is survived by her son, Mike Mulhern (Laura) of Litchfield, Ill.; daughters, Linda Dalton (Carroll) of Plain City, Oh., Kathleen Sullivan of Bidwell, Oh. and Maureen Lewis (Randy) of Wellston, Oh.; grandsons, Michael Mulhern (Meghan) of Des Plaines, Ill., Jason Dalton (Lindsey) of Powell, Oh., Brad Aberts (Loren) of Thurman, Oh., Ryan Souders (Samantha) of Wellston, Oh. and Adams Souders (Meagan) of  Lima; step-grandsons, Morgan Sullivan of Michigan, Aaron Sullivan of Tennessee, Will Lewis of Jackson, Joe Lewis of Wellston and Jeff Lewis of Wellston;  granddaughters, Jenny Loveless (Abe) of Litchfield, Ill., Terra Dalton of Columbus, Oh. and Korie Burns (Chuck) of Thurman; great-grandsons, Rowan Mulhern, Landon Loveless, Grady Burns and Greer Burns; great-granddaughters, Sydney Mulhern, Cassandra Loveless, Hannah Loveless, Holly Dalton and Cora Dalton; step-great-grandchildren, Briley, Bentley, Beckett and Brandel Sullivan; Timber, Brycen, Brandon, Ashtyn, Reece, Sarah and Jenna Lewis; sister-in-law, Mary Mulhern of Wellston, as well as several nieces and nephews. 

Besides her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, James Mulhern in 2003; son-in-law, Kenny Sullivan; brother, William C. Hansgen; sister Elizabeth “Betty” Coon; and special brothers-in-law and sister-in-law,  Robert E. Coon, William E. Mulhern and Esther Hansgen. 

Calling hours will be Monday, May 27, 2019, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston, where Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, May 28 at 10 a.m. at the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Wellston with Father Nic Ventura officiating.  Burial will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
